Jerry Johnson
Co-Founder, Co-Chairman

 
Mr. Johnson is responsible for Corporate Governance and Business Development for ESmith Legacy.  Mr. Johnson brings extensive corporate governance, business development and financial mangement expertise to ESmith Legacy.  He previously serviced as the President of eMoney Advisor and the Executive Vice President of Safeguard Scientifics  (NYSE: SFE), an operating company focused on acquiring and developing technology companies.   In  that capacity, he was responsible for the success of several entrepreneurial companies, lending his management and industry expertise as he guided CEOs through corporate expansion, management team development, and in many cases initial public offerings.  

Mr. Johnson recently served as the business advisor on the $500M acquisition of a pharmaceutical chemical manufacturing facility on behalf a Philadelphia based minority-owned company.  That company is now the first minority-owned company to own a such a facility and they are on track to earn $200M in the first year.

Mr. Johnson also ran the network at US West, where he was responsible for the company’s largest division of more than 22,000 employees. Mr. Johnson also currently serves as Chairman of Radnor Trust Company, a nationally chartered full service bank based in Radnor, Pa.

Mr. Johnson holds a BS in Psychology from Truman State University, an MS in Counseling and Education from Northern Illinois University, and an MS in Management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.  He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  He is married and the father of two children.

Emmitt Smith
Co-Founder, Co-Chairman and CEO

Prior to becoming CEO/President of SmithCypress Partners in May 2005, Emmitt Smith enjoyed an illustrious pro football career, which included three Super Bowl championships and the honor of being the only running back to have won a Super Bowl, the NFL MVP award, the NFL Rushing Crown, and the Super Bowl MVP award in one season. 

Mr. Smith
is now aggressively translating his champion’s legacy to the business community.   As well known for his character and integrity as he is for his athletic ability, Emmitt continues to give back to the community and support higher education, currently sponsoring the college educations of several underserved children.  He has been the spokesperson for a number of top corporations.  

As one whose efforts have often furthered others’ abilities to win, Emmitt’s vision is to use his influence to create a real estate development portfolio that provides high quality facilities and services that will have generational financial benefits to his clients.  Proven fast, smart and –thanks to Dancing with the Stars - smooth on his feet, Emmitt is a formidable executive.

Mr. Smith continues to share his personal and professional stories with organizations across the country.  Emmitt has been a member of the President's Health and Fitness Council, and has been recognized by numerous organizations for his leadership and public service.  He is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Public Recreation.  He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.  Emmitt is married and the father of four children.

 

Brian Morris
Co-Founder, President

Mr. Morris is formerly a registered securities professional with Provident Bank of Maryland, Merrill Lynch, and Legg Mason Wood Walker.  Mr. Morris held the Series 7, 63/65, and 24 securities license and had approximately $250M under management.  Mr. Morris also held licenses for life and health.  After leaving Legg Mason Wood Walker, he was co-founder and Securities Principal of Legacy Unlimited—a privately owned broker/dealer and insurance brokerage firm.  Mr. Morris was instrumental in starting Legacy Unlimited’s real estate development business.  One of Mr. Morris’ noteworthy real estate efforts was the successful initiation and formation of a developers’ and contractors’ minority consortium, Presidential Partners, for the purpose of pursuing significant real estate development opportunities including an urban, mixed-use, and commercial development.  The first project under Presidential Partners is the $1.5B Science & Technology Park at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD.  Other noteworthy projects led by Mr. Morris included the luxury high-rises, Zenith Tower and 414 Water Street in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

Mr. Morris is a member of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Leadership Class of 2000. Mr. Morris graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park.  Mr. Morris  is a member of Phi Beta Sigma, Fraternity, Inc. Mr. Morris is married with a son and a daughter.  

Vernon Marrow
Co-Founder, Chief Operations Officer

Mr. Marrow is formerly a retail and commercial banker with Signet Banking Corporation and a registered securities professional with Signet Financial Services (Signet Bank and Signet Financial Services are now owned by Wachovia Bank).  His responsibilities included, but were not exclusive to, analytical, operations, product management and development, branch management, commercial cash management, and investment brokerage duties. 

Mr. Marrow was also a financial advisor with Legg Mason Wood Walker.  During his years as registered representative, Mr. Marrow held the Series 7, 63/65, 24, 27, and 53 securities licenses and had approximately $200M under management.  Mr. Marrow also held licenses for life and health insurance.  After leaving Legg Mason Wood Walker, he was co-founder ,Securities Principal, and Financial Operations Principal of Legacy Unlimited—a privately owned broker/dealer and insurance brokerage firm.

His expertise, leveraged by ESmith Legacy, Inc, is in operations management, private and public investments, banking, product development, program and vertical development, and new business development. 

Mr. Marrow is a member of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Leadership Class of 2002. Mr.Marrow graduated from Towson State University in 1987 with a BS in Mass Communication with a concentration in Journalism.

He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of LIGHT Health & Wellness, the Vice President and a Board Member of The League for People with Disabilities, a Board Member for The Parks & People Foundation, Board Member of Associated Black Charities of Maryland, and a youth football coach. Mr. Marrow formerly served on the board of directors for The Maryland Association of Urban Bankers. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. Mr. Marrow is married with two sons

 

 

David Mosley
Co-Founder, SVP Alternative Investments

   
David Mosley is Co-Founder of ESmith Legacy, Inc.  He serves as the company’s Senior Vice President of Alternative Investments.

Mr. Mosley is expert in matters of business development, business analysis, financial management, franchising, and franchise operations.  His expertise is leveraged by ESmith Legacy’s  goal of growing its vertical programs. 

Prior to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Mr. Mosley was a commercial banker with First Union National Bank (now Wachovia Bank), responsible for increasing minority lending; and a license financial advisor with Guardian Insurance where he was recognized for Top Sales efforts on several occasions.  His operations experience began in management with T.G.I Friday’s, where he was responsible for overseeing food cost and labor.  He then joined a Chicago-based management-consulting firm as a Senior Executive Manager, managing analysts responsible for assisting corporations with performance enhancement initiatives and business analytical processes.

Mr. Mosley later founded ALD Pharmaceutical LLC in 1996.   ALD Pharmaceutical LLC is a home infusion and medical distributor firm once recognized by Black Enterprise as Emerging Growth Company of the Year.  Mr. Mosley is a member of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Leadership Class of 2002.  He was recognized in 1992 by the Baltimore Business Journal in its listing of Who's Who in Business and 40 Leaders Under 40. Mr. Mosley graduated from Morgan State University in 1995 with a degree in Business Administration.

Before serving as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors for LIGHT Health & Wellness, Mr. Mosley served with the American Heart Association.  Mr. Mosley has a daughter.
 

 

 

 

 

Tamela Thornton
Co-Founder, SVP Alternative Investments

Ms. Thornton has over 20 years of Real Estate related experience including site selection, market analysis for new business development, store location planning, lease negotiation, and construction project management.  Her unique experience base has evolved from a variety of work experiences with corporate entities, private developers and public agencies.  Her experience with market and financial feasibility consulting for public agencies and private developers early in her career laid the foundation for the practical application of growth principles to everyday development challenges.  This broad range of experience has cultivated her keen business acumen as well as a unique perspective that helps her clearly place the needs of business owners into the overall development objectives typically found in municipal planning environments.  Her expertise also includes over 13 years of corporate site selection for PepsiCo /YUM! Brands Restaurants and Starbucks Coffee Company. 

Early in her career at YUM!, Ms. Thornton generated over $19 million in new store sales with an  average return of 17%.  She also developed site selection criteria and analysis techniques to identify optimal market penetration for the restaurant brands.  She has worked in many of the major US markets, as well as internationally in markets as diverse as China, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Peru and the Caribbean. 

At Starbucks Coffee Company, Ms. Thornton managed the real estate and construction team for one of the fastest growing regions in the country.  Her team delivered over 65 stores annually while developing a strong project pipeline has positioned Starbucks for continued growth in Texas and Oklahoma.  These deals generated over $70 million in top-line sales for the company with strong returns.

By nature of her broad experience, Ms. Thornton has a deep understanding of a variety of real estate development challenges and she is committed to providing relevant, cost effective business solutions for potential clients.  She holds BA and MA degrees in Regional Science from the University of Pennsylvania.  She is on the executive board of the Ft. Worth Women’s Business Assistance Center, and an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), the United Way Outcomes Committee and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.        

Sonya Weigle
Co-Founder, SVP Corporate Strategy & Development

Ms. Weigle possesses extensive experience in strategic planning and implementation. Ms. Weigle has proven experience in assessing organizations for effectiveness, the need for automation, and the development of overall business strategy.  She is also known for her ability to develop mutually beneficial and profitable relationships with senior executives seeking to transform their organizations through process redesign, systems implementation, staff development and strategy design.

Ms. Weigle assisted in a $500M pharmaceutical industry acquisition by developing and implementing a due diligence strategy, sourcing of funds necessary for the acquisition, provided consultative services during deal negotiations, provided management of the HR due diligence process, and performed post-deal organization structure design.  ESmith-Legacy leverages Ms. Weigle’s skills as it pursues various vertical and organic growth models for each business unit

Ms. Weigle was the co-founder and Managing Partner of Wilford, Weigle & Associates, a strategic management and operations consulting firm.  She has also worked as Vice President of Human Resources for a global property and casualty insurance company, a senior consultant with Andersen Consulting, a senior consultant with Mercer Consulting, and as the co-founder of two successful entrepreneurial ventures.

Ms. Weigle has an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and degrees in Political Science, Psychology and English Composition from the University of Pittsburgh. Ms. Weigle was nominated for the “Most Successful Young Black Woman in Philadelphia” by Philly Tech Org.  She is also the founder of the Urban Community Economic Development Initiative, founder of netWorkingMommy, an online membership community for Moms who are entrepreneurs, business owners, and corporate executives, a Board member for the Delaware County Community Foundation, a Board member of The Haverford School Parents Assoc – Independent Boys School JrK-12, and a Gala Board Member for the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Center.  She is married with three children.
